Jane Austen is a formative influence on how we think about England and Englishness , about class, ideology and gender issues. The critical convoy aligns her with the conservative views which her texts entertain. In this study, the author asserts that this view of Tory Jane is misguided and largely illusion. His book seeks to offer a different critical inflection from those of traditional critical appropriations.
