I was very proud of my five-year education in the Archiepiscopal Teacher Training College of Eger and the summa cum laude diploma I was awarded there. The school, a superb baroque building, and the serious looking schoolmasters taught us that teaching was an art, the most respectable of all professions. Just be ready the first day you enter the classroom. In the brain drain era Uncle Sam called upon us to come and teach the tongue-tied Americans quaint languages and never-heard-of cultures, we were ready to come. We packed up our chattels, kissed our family good-bye, hugged friends, playmates, neighbors, and dogs and landed in the City of Angels.
