This is a very good movie, especially because it is based on a true story. The cast do a good job, and I was surprised that Angelina Jolie was the director. All in all, well worth a looksee.

The acting was good, but the story was depressing,, not the sort of film I would like to watch a second time. The brutality of the Japanese guards and the continued struggles endured by the hero who survived the ordeal, don't make for comfortable viewing, nor does the fact that the ordeal continued even after his return through post traumatic stress. Not a feel good movie, but a memorial to the inhumanity and courage bred by war.
