The directorial debut of actor Richard E. Grant, Wah-Wah is the autobiographical story of Grant's childhood growing up in Swaziland. It's 1969, the country's last days of British rule. Ralph's (Nicolas Hoult) life reflects these changing times as he becomes caught in the crossfire of his parents unhappiness when his mother (Miranda Richardson) leaves his father (Gabriel Byrne) for their neighbour. Ralph is dispatched to boarding school and returns two years later to discover his father has recently married Ruby (Emily Watson), a brassy but kind-hearted American. Wah-Wah is a poignant, warm-hearted crowd-pleaser.
