Finding a subwoofer for a pair of speakers is the best and verst part of setting up speakers when we work within a budget. The verst part is we can't go ahead and buy a SVS, B&W, Rithmik etc, because of the budget. If we still want a good sound for movies and music, then the smart way to achieve that from what I learnt is to get smaller system or small sound with less distortion and reasonable low and high frequency response. This decision got me out of financial stress, smaller foot print gave me flexibility and made rest of the family happy, more importantly, lot more options are available to accomplish this. I had a pair of B&W 601 S3, then a pair of B&W 685 S1 connected with a Rotel stereo amp and chose to go with pair Wharfedale SW150 based on the reviews. All items were second hand and costed me only up to AUD $950. Then I added a B&W LCR and used my 601s as surround on a 5.2 system using a Rotel RMB1066. Now I have the flexibility of bi-wiring and bi-amping when I wanted to, gave me the opportunity to use the SW150s in duel sub arrangement. The total cost of the sound system now stretched to AUD $1600. Believe me, SW150 was perfectly matched to my system in my room. It's all about matching and placing when we use budget equipments. I had a decent audible low frequency for movies up to 30Hz at -65 db from SW150 in my room (Size 7.5m x 4m (25.75 ft x 13.2 ft). I believe SW150 is perfect for music with a set of speakers in B&W 685 and below range better than pairing with its own brand. And SW150 looks nice and has a small foot print as well. I'll recommend Wharfedale SW150 for small 2.1 or 2+1 CH and 5.1CH setup. Or for a medium size 2.2 or 2+2 CH setup. It is one of the best budget subwoofers in the market ever since its was released.Read full review
