I bought Rathbone's "Windows 95 for dummies" book many years ago (Nov 1995). It was the book that really started it all from me, having upgraded from an old Amiga 1000 to an IBM Aptiva 2168-M series. Windows 95 had only been around for ~3 months or so, and going from Amiga OS to Windows 95 (and the PC architecture in general) was a huge jump (not to mention my first ever system with a mysterious looking CD-ROM drive that I had no idea how to use). I read it cover-to-cover, laughing all the way through it. Thanks to Mr. Rathbone, not only did I learn how to use a CD-ROM drive, I went from knowing little to nothing about PCs in general to having my own little business of assembling custom PCs. (yes, it's a book about an OS, but he had plenty of details about getting computer hardware to work in Windows 95). Most people probably wouldn't have a use for a "dummies" series book about an operating system that was in its heyday 15 years ago, but for me, this brings back the days, and it makes a nice antique on my bookshelf. Highly recommended.Read full review
