Great Action, Blinding Colors

This Modern Era log loader is a remake of a Post War Era Lionel operating accessory. Dual metal chains lift logs (stained wooden dowels) from trackside to an upper bin from which they can be dumped to a waiting railcar or truck positioned on the other side of the loader. Watching the "logs" being lifted by the chains is really quite entertaining. This modern remake is improved over the original by the use of small DC motors to control all the action, and the motors are realistically slow and dependable. Three points that a potential buyer should note include size, material, and color. This is a large accessory with an 11-inch by 11-inch footprint, and it stands about 9 inches high. Almost all of the components are plastic, not metal, so the loader should not be treated roughly to avoid breakage. To me, the most objectionable point are the bright, shiny, almost garish colors; a modeler striving for realism on his layout will definitely want to paint the structure in more subdued and believable hues. In brief, this accessory is highly entertaining and well designed, but it is molded in colors far too bright to be realistic. I have only verified that its motor responds to the right electrical power source. It will take several more weeks before I can get together what is needed for it to actually "operate". I respond then, with hope and optimism rather than keeping silence.This is a piece of Lionel equipment that is intended to operate in combination with two other companion items, a sawmill and lumber handling forklift loading/unloading platform, plus all requiring specific LIonel railroad flatcars as part of the operations of an "O" gauge model railroad layout.
