One of the best classic Masterpiece Theater shows

For years I've been telling my husband and son how good this show was. I was finally able to purchase it and we did an episode a day for four days, our own miniseries showing. It was great! They enjoyed it just as much as I thought they would, it was as good as I remembered. They were actually disappointed that it ended, it was done well and the actors were really good. Being a frugal person, I won't pay a lot for anything if I don't have to, and I waited until I found a good price for this, it was worth waiting for a good price and seeing it again.Read full review...

You can't go wrong watching this BBC movie. It is just as funny and entertaining now as it was when first aired on TV almost 25 yr ago. For those of us who lived through the first Cold War and the hippy days of the 60's, it has more meaning than it will younger viewers who should watch it to prepare for the next Cold/Hot war with the same antagonist.Read full review...

Wide awake with wit!

The last time I saw this comedy drama was when it was first aired in the early 90's and I was totally impressed then as I am now watching it all over again. The seriousness and comedy elements are perfectly balanced and you really do get an emotional attachment to the characters. It might be showing it's age slightly with the early 90's technology and vehicles but that is irrelevant as the story is so well thought out. I know it's a sweeping statement, but I reckon this is easily in the top 10 British comedy/dramas of the last 20 years. If there's ANY negatives, it's the unbelievable fact that I had to import this from the USA as it's not been released in the UK for some very strange reason, even though as I write this in Feb 2010, it's going to be shown on UK TV soon. On the two DVD's, you only get Filmography's of the characters and no other extras, but that's only a minor gripe! On the whole, totally recommended!Read full review...
