Not a NFS game - don't recommend for true NFS fans
I can't figure out why EA decided to take a complete 180 from the Need for Speed feel with this game...? All of the things that made past Need for Speed games so great are sadly missing from this game. No police pursuits, no options, no variety, and no free-roam! No free-roam?? You're kidding, right EA? Basically, you're trapped in a world of poorly-designed raceways, racing cars that are identical to yours, you can't leave, you can't choose not to race, every race is a repeat of the last one, its just redundancy. Part of the NFS fun is just driving around hitting things! Not in this game. To go along with it all there is always some annoying announcer screaming things at you in over-the-top slang language. I can't say that past games have had the greatest sound-tracks, but I vastly prefer the rap seconds to the boarder guy cracking lines and yelling. It completely detracts from the intensity that past games had. It makes it almost a joke. It makes me wonder if game designers are trying to veer away from the other NFS versions to keep it less...criminal...?? No police chases, no illegal street racing, no destruction of public property. The claim is this is more "realistic" to actual racing in this day and age, now that it is a true sport in some places. I really don't care how realistic it is, it is horrifically boring! Maybe it is a valiant effort to remove some of the violence, but, really... isn't that what made the NFS games so much fun??? Who wants to drive down a slalom-like tunnel over and over and over again? Video games should be a way to escape reality. This game beats you over the head with how dull the "reality" of sport racing is. And really - just as an added irritation - does everything have to match?? The levels' graphics feel like a juniors department store display! After 20 minutes you feel like you have camo print burned into your retinas! It's just way too much. If you are looking to re-live the fast-paced Need for Speed experience - go back to Carbon or Most Wanted until EA pulls their heads out (hopefully) for the next NFS installment. Or try Midnight Club from RockStar Games - that was surprisingly a really great game! You won't find anything fast-paced with ProStreet. Better luck next time EA.

    Fun game overall
Its decent, but not really memorable. The graphics are very good, and compared to later NFS games the environment is much more eye-catching. Some of the other NFS games were really ghetto and dark and difficult to navigate - I guess that is the point, but it was more frustrating than fun - I prefer the bright paradise-like environments of this game. Gameplay is not as free as later NFS games - there is no free-roam, career play is very short, and there is no customization on the cars except color, and even that it very restricted - so it is difficult to become absorbed in it, but it is a fun escape game now and then. The one really fun difference is the option to be the police officer. I would recommend it to those who game for fun, but it is not for those who want intensity.

If you lke racing games, get this.
Very diverse - four cities to explore, tons of cars including bikes, graphics are really good. I like that there are no set paths for racing, no fake barriers, it remains open while racing. Very similar to Need for speed games in play, except for the open racing and the multiple cities. Cops are there, but only to slow you down or get in your way, no arrests or fines. I liked it better than any NFS game so far. My only complaint - the soundtrack sucks! Great game though, highly recommend it if you can handle the lousy music. I haven't played the first version, but I hear it doesn't include Tokyo, so if you are looking this game for the first time, get this Remix version.
