ED is the way to go
I researched binoculars before buying. It appeared the ED technology does make a difference. I am happy I paid the extra money for the ED. In a side by side comparison with an older pair of non-ED I am sold.

Could be better
MinnKota tells you to drill a 1 and 7/8 hole to accommodate the plug which is a little too large for the three mounting screws to easily bite into the surrounding material. At the very least MK should include a backing plate to insure the screws have something to bite into.
