What are lay flat hoses?

What types of lay flat hoses are available?
There are generally two types of lay flat hoses, the majority of which are braided or spun-reinforced. Typical examples are garden hoses and hydraulic hoses. Burst pressure is determined by the amount of reinforcement, hence the notion that the thickness of the hose wall equals strength. The other type of hose is made with woven reinforcement, which is the same type of reinforcement used in woven hoisting slings at docks and warehouses. The woven reinforcements interlock, thereby achieving high burst pressure and tensile strength ratings. These hoses can be used with air compressors, as drinking hoses, as fire hoses and even heavy-duty transfer hoses.
How do I maintain lay flat hoses?
While these hoses are constructed to withstand immense pressure, proper care and maintenance is always ideal for longevity. Regular inspection of the hose surface will reveal any delamination and defects, while general maintenance, such as never subjecting hoses to heavier loads than they are rated for, keeps repairs at bay. Other preventive maintenance includes making sure that working pressure is never surpassed and all pressure changes must be made at gradual paces to prevent damage. Moreover, storage is extremely important; ensure that the storage area is cool, dark and completely free of moisture if storing for long periods. Covering the hose when exposed to direct sunlight over long periods is also necessary, as well as wrapping it around the manufacturer supplied wheel to prevent kinks from forming.
