France / Russia by Stanley Black (CD) Vocalion - review
This single CD is a package of 2 older LP recordings originally cut by phase 4 stero. The first side of the cd is music relating to the French people while the second side is that of the music of Russia. Both original recordings have been digitally remastered and retain their original musical stereo lustre, and are if anything, improved a little by digital remastering.
I found the Frence music delightful while I think I shall have to hear the music of Russia a few more times to get used to it. I found a lot of the tracks on the Russina side of the CD to be heavy and a little tiresome to listen to in one sitting, not so with the French side of the CD. On balance it is a great CD and one of the Stanley B;acks better offerings. Glen.
