Faulty jack plug
There's a loose connection in the jack plug so it only seemed to work when it was rotated around in a particular position.
I've no idea why there's a switch on the product -- why would you ever switch it off?
Is reasonably sturdy and doesn't slip on a carpeted floor (I haven't tried it on a non-carpeted floor)
