Microsoft Modern Mobile Mouse Mint KTF-00020*AU STOCK*
12 August 2021
Superb design, quiet and precise, one of the best.
On the face of it this little mouse looks like any other flat mouse for a Surface or laptop, but look a bit closer and you'll notice the excellent design. In the early days, Microsoft mice were unquestionably the industry standard, but then other companies caught up. The dust-gathering roller ball and cable with mini-DIN plug are long gone, but now Microsoft's Bluetrack technology puts them back on top, as it's far superior to yesterday's optical or laser tracking. The Microsoft Surface Mouse operates wirelessly via Bluetooth, which most equipment will have nowadays, or just get a cheap plug-in USB dongle for a few dollars. It's made of smooth, plain, matt plastic or ABS with a genuine metal scroll wheel and two buttons. It has no need of drag-inducing pads on the underside, or indeed a mouse mat for that matter, and all you see is a thin Teflon slider enclosing the blue light emitter and a discrete pairing/on-off button. The battery compartment cover looks like any other, suggesting a sharp push is needed to unclip it, but it's actually held securely in place with magnets, and then easily pops off just by pressing one end. The AAA batteries inside both face the same way so that you don't have to figure out which way round they go; a simple but incredible innovation which should have been standard in all battery compartments fifty years ago. Well done! Otherwise, it's a bit flat but just about comfortable enough for long periods. (If you should find it too flat for extended use, try sticking a lump of foam or cork on top of it with Blutack.) A superbly designed little wireless mouse, quiet and precise, one of the best.
Who Said Cherry Red - Tony / Groundhogs Mcphee (CD New)
11 April 2019
Tony McPhee presents an indulgent snapshot of some of his old classics. Excellent stuff.
To my mind Tony McPhee was one of the best old-style blues-based electric guitarists from the 60's and 70's. Unlike Eric Clapton and many others he was a true all round musician and actually composed and later recorded and arranged his own material, in the process making one of the first 'concept' albums, providing the Beatles with a useful riff, and turning down a front-man job with the Rolling Stones. This odd 25-years-later nostalgia album was apparently put together by McPhee in his home studio and overdubbed to make it sound like a live recording. He performed bass too, as Pete Chymon, an anagram of his own name. As he says, it's a bit self indulgent as the tracks are some of his old favourites which he never got to play live, but quite nicely done for all that. According to the sleeve notes it was produced in 1996, eventually being made available in 2017. So, a glimpse of the old Groundhog from probably McPhee's golden years, and a trip down memory lane for enthusiasts. A bit creaky in places, but still highly recommended.
AU*Leofoto LE284C+CB40 bTravel Angel Tripod Kit Carbon Fibre| Max load:12kg
09 June 2020
Superb quality and incredibly good value.
Said to be inspired by the hugely expensive US RRS tripods, this Chinese made brand seems to get top reviews on-line. The Leofoto LE284C carbon fibre tripod with detachable monopod leg and quality 40mm ball head is well made with real attention to detail, and looks great. A medium size tripod with centre column and 28mm legs, which is relatively rigid even at full height with my DSLR and 400mm lens attached. Good for serious work I'd say but maybe just a bit too big for holidays and long hikes. A real bargain.
