Philips Fidelio X2HR Over-Ear Open-Air Headphone - Black
30 May 2020
Great all around open back headphones for under $150!
These are excellent headphones but a little over-hyped. The build quality is great but the tall headband gives them a gigantic look. They are over 13 oz on paper but they feel very lightweight and they can be worn for hours without feeling any discomfort. Fidelio X2HR would have been my favorite pair of headphones if I didn't own a pair of Audio Technica WS1100is. Fidelio have a balanced sound and they produce excellent detail but WS1100is outperform them by producing deeper and tighter bass without compromising detail, clarity and sound stage. Fidelio produce plenty of bass but the clean, tight, punchy, and authentic bass from Audio Technica is on a completely different level. Fidelio X2HR are still great for listening to music but don't expect skull rattling bass from these. The bass is very clean and solid. Unlike many other popular bass-heavy headphones, these won't add artificial bass and alter the sound. Even though these are 30 ohms headphones, an external DAC/amp is required to get the best sound. An external DAC wont be necessary if they are plugged in to a DAP or a smartphone (LG V or G series) with a good dedicated DAC.
