Excellent capture Card, great for restoring your favorite VHS tapes.
1 of 1 found this helpful I don't really need to say a whole lot honestly. I mainly bought it to capture my vhs childhood movies and home footage and it has definitely, done that well. I haven't had any of the issues so many people claimed to have...I just think most people don't Know what they're doing. I will warn you, even transferring a lower quality format such as a VHS tape (580i/59.95fps) WILL be a large file after capture. For a movie that is over an HR long you are looking at any where from 100gb to 150gb in size. Yes I said gigabyte. This card does capture at 10bit yuv which is what I've been doing on these changes tapes in order to Capture at the best available format before I then upscale them on my Mac. Of course afterwards they will then be compressed to a reasonable size.
The software installed very easily and then everything else just fell into place. Just make sure you go to black magic designs website for the most recent software.
It's very simple to operate, everything is pretty much self explanatory, there are PDFs for practically everything. I think it is important to have a fast system, I will add that. I had just finished building a new system too. So that definitely helped I'm sure.
I'm using a ryzen 7 1700x CPU overclocked to 4ghz. I have 16gb 3000mhz cl16 ddr4 ram. And a new MSI b450 carbon pro ac motherboard. Also 4gb video memory on my AMD r9 fury graphics card.
I have a 275gb SSD and a 1tb western digital blue HDD. I have a 3tb hitachi ultrastar drive for external storage as well. It is possible to store many transfer projects at once, as many as you'd like. Just be prepared to have the space available.
Really I'd say there is nothing wrong with this card at all. It does what it's supposed to. And no more. No less. I'd say the quality it captures is amazing. Very good product. Definitely recommend it. They do have a 4k version now...but wasn't what I needed so I spent way less and bought this one. Under $50 actually used. Oh I'd also like to add, I'm currently using Windows 7 64 bit. I will updating to win 10 soon. Which this card is also supported under windows 10, which is excellent news.
