Fuji HS20EXR Outstanding Camera! Features wise it's brilliant, ergonomics are perfect, you can operate this camera controls and functions in total darkness once the quick access buttons are mastered. Great LCD, but the low res EVF is little bit of a let down. EXR modes produce amazing results. Scene Recognition (27 variations) work amazingly well, though in Auto EXR sometines can go awry. You can reduce this to almost zero by manually selecting EXR modes: 16MP High Resolution (HR), High Dynamic Range (DR) or High Sensitivity (HS) Full Manual is really worth trying for amateurs to really appreciate the stunning Image Quality and creative capabilities of this camera. 58mm Filter mount thread is a real appetiser, making creative effects using a massive range of commercially available filters. I have the EF 42 Flash which is simply brilliant with the camera. (I found the built in Flash great but too limiting). Neither Nikon, Canon or Panasonic equivalents have a flash hotshoe for external flash options. Any complaints about IQ not up to the mark, either means the camera, or it's operator is faulty. It is possible to eek out performance to match some entry level DSLRs from the HS20. The lens range from 1 cm Super Macro to 720 mm Telephoto is another great reason to buy this amazing all rounder. (A lens for every occasion). Sensor Image Stabilisation works well but not as good as good as some bridges available, but in terms of general performance knocks the competition into a cocked hat! The quality feel and solid construction makes this feel like the serious camera it is and encourages one to hold it and use it, It is no lightweight at 700+ grammes, but this for me adds to the solid feel. This camera is the perfect tool for learning much more about photography, don't be put off with the semi auto (P,S,A) and full manual (M) modes, I use mine in full manual approximately 50% of the time. Add to this a custom memory position (C)on the mode dial to instantly re-call your favourite settings for use. Special Portrait "Pro-Focus" and "Pro-Low" light modes both work brilliantly. White Balance provides an array of compensations for various ambient lighting types, however, it is also a fantastic set of in-camera filters when used to warm or cool down a scene to suit your creativity. The ability to shoot 8 frames at full 16MP res or faster burst rates at lower res is another area of flexibility allowing action shooting or sequenced shots, best of four etc. Also there are bracketing modes for exposure, film simulation and EXR Mode. Battery life depends entirely on battery quality, buy the best High Capacity (2300mA/H or more) Ni-MH you can and you'll get 450-500 shots, (non-flash) without a problem! Of course if you do run flat a set of AA alkalines can be bought from any garage or corner shop, anywhere in the world, what alternative do you have with a dedicated LiIon but to stop shooting? The only downsides to this camera are Slow focus tracking in Video mode, (if you want a video camera buy a DVR) and the low res EVF, but the superb tilting LCD more than compensates. I've had mine for over six months now and I still can't put the thing down, this is the best brigde camera on the market, (Except now the HS30EXR and XS-1). With newer Fuji's already out this is bound to be discounted so grab one while you can at a bargain price
