Intel Xeon X3230 CPU Processor 2.66 GHz 1066 MHz LGA 775/Socket T

Excellent upgrade for Dell PowerEdge 840

Installed in Dell PowerEdge 840. Went from dual core 2.13 to quad core 2.66. Works great, now running Server 2016 using this single CPU and 4GB of RAM. Note: Be sure to update the BIOS to the most recent version first, or you will receive a message at boot indicating that needs to be done; you can download that update from Dell. Be aware that in order to update the BIOS you must either have a supported OS installed (not newer than Server 2008 R2 / Windows 7) or use the “create bootable floppy disk” option.

Windows 10 Pro software on Bootable USB Drive

If you don’t want to download Windows software and then create a bootable USB drive to install it from, or don’t know how, or don’t have a fast Internet connection, you can buy a bootable USB Drive containing the same Windows 10 Pro software which Microsoft makes available for free download - IF you can find a link to where it is available, which I could not. You must purchase the License separately, what you get here is a USB drive (good quality, worth nearly as much as the purchase price) plus the service of downloading the free software, loading it on the USB drive in a special way that makes it bootable, and shipping it to you. I have since learned where to download the software and how to create a bootable USB drive, and I still think this is a great value. Just be aware it is just the software, like what Microsoft used to give us on a CD or DVD, but no longer does unless you buy a much-more-expensive “retail box” instead of just buying a license.
