Sony SEL1018 10-18mm Wide-Angle Zoom Lens
02 February 2016
Sharp, Lightweight, love the focal length
I wanted a super wide lens that doesn't distort like a fisheye, and this is it! This is my favorite lens, because I like the focal length and wide depth of field. I use this lens more than all my others. Usage: SELP1650(rare;low shutter speed), SEL16F28(never/unusable;too soft), SEL20F28(often;stealth and sharpness), SEL35F18(less often;too narrow), SEL50F18(rare;far too narrow), and SEL55210(often;for long reach). I simply point-and-shoot in the general direction, then crop what I need, during family outings. For architectural and landscape, this is also my favorite lens. I used to struggle with panoramas and jagged edges, but NOW i can take one shot and have everything, with no image glitches. During low-light, wildlife, macro, or stealth/candid photography, I would not use this lens. But I like this lens for general purpose / street photography. It's not the sharpest lens, but it is also not unacceptably soft like the SEL16F28 with/without wide angle adapter. I would subjectively rate sharpness as 'near the SELP1650 kit lens', which is decent, but not stunningly sharp. Vignette and chromatic aberration do not bother me with this lens, but they might be there. I wish I could use the F2.8 11-20mm Tokin_ lens, but there is no E-mount version.

The card died within a week. The cooler still works.
The displayport had an unreliable connection from day 1. The hdmi port required all other ports to be disconnected to work properly. after the hdmi was activated, other ports could be connected without issue. The DVI ports worked flawlessly. The card died within a week.
Sony SEL SEL35F18 35mm F/1.8 OSS Lens

Pretty sharp, but not the right lens for family photography
Performance - This lens produces sharp images. The focus motor is quiet, iso is kept low with the wide aperture. Ergonomics - This lens is lightweight, so it does not throw the camera out of balance or cause hand fatigue. The focus ring is wide, smooth, and easy to turn. Value - Mediocre; 30mm 2.8 other brand lens could be had for half the price, and would produce decent images. I see no real reason to own both 50mm and 35mm lenses, as they are both portrait lenses. I prefer the 35mm, but it's not worth double the price in my opinion. Buy again? - I would never pay full price for this lens. If Sony ever comes out with a wider low light OSS lens at a reasonable price (not zeiss price), I'd buy that one in a heartbeat.
