Great Synth to Start With
To be honest I bought this for two reasons-1) the Moog is too expensive; this being the 70's rival was much cheaper. 2) I wanted something that would help me learn synthesis and this was the right call
The Korg Arp Odyssey comes with a manual which helps. I don't know a lot about synthesizers so the Korg Kronos I bought has gone mostly untouched because of the complexity of not knowing how to engineer sound.
The Odyssey's manual tells you from scratch what each slider does and how you can manipulate sound. It actually tells you what to do in the manual. The manual is about 30 pages of instruction and I have learned quite a bit about how to use and apply it to the other poly synth I have. After about the first four pages of the manual I'm already making really cool sounds and there is still more to learn.
If you're starting the learning curve of synthesis I recommend something more basic like an Odyssey or Moog and work your way up. Sure I want a Dave Smith OB-6 or Prophet 6 Sequential but there's no point if I don't understand how to use it. Baby steps.
