Omniscanner -is it worth buying?
With network installations, and with this I mean the actual hardware and associated bits and pieces, the most important part is the cable laying. Whatever other equipment you may be installing, it won't be able to communicate if this is not done well. A cable tester (such as the fluke dtx/dsp or the hp/agilent) will be enable you to test in depth these cables and pinpoint any faults. The nice part is that you can download these results on to a pc and print them out as proof.
Now, as a quick search would prove, Fluke and HP products are a little heavy financially. However being that most installations nowadays are still Cat5e and Cat6, this is where the Omniscanner becomes a smart buy. It tests up to Cat6 and only costs about $1000, as compared to $3000+ for the Flukes and HP's.
When buying one, in all probability the batteries will be very near the end of their life so that needs to be factored into the total purchase price. I was lucky and bought one from a reputable dealer who gave me refurbished batteries with it. You would also need to re-calibrate it (as with all other testers) which would cost in the region of $300, sometimes more.
Final analysis? Very good to start with and a cheap alternative to the others in the market. Always good to have one as a spare even if you have a top of the range product.

Quite a durable one
1 of 1 found this helpful The aluminium border reminds me of the iphone 4 - which survived being run over by an old 4x4 with only a cracked protective glass.
Power is about 2 days as a normal phone but 1 day if used also for heavy browsing.
32 gigs of memory isn't much these days but can be expanded easily.
