Wake Of the Flood - The Deads Best Studio Album?
This is one of my personal favorites from the long discography of the Grateful Dead. It is certainly one of the groups most cohesive studio efforts. The group took a couple of years off from the studio after the American Beauty / Workingmans Dead releases. They also lost founding member Pig Pen to liver disease earlier in the year. But, they returned to the studio with fresh material and new band members Donna and Keith Godchaux. Many of the tracks on this album had been performed for months on the road, so the band was well rehearsed when they recorded them at the Record Plant in August, 1973. I have always thought the sound on this album was a little muddy. The cymbals certainly are and this new re-master does help a lot but it's not perfect. What is perfect is everything else on this mix. Bass is HUGE, vocals are clear and background instruments come through clearly. I was surprised to hear things I have never noticed before and I have listened to this album hundreds of times. I even heard a voice talking in the background at 2:22 on 'Here Comes Sunshine' - Wow!! This album is very solid from beginning to end. If you like the Dead or liked this album, you should have this Rhino re-master in your collection. The disc also includes bonus studio outtakes and a live version of 'Eyes Of The World' from 1973. This certainly could be the Deads best studio album. You'll have to decide for yourself. Not to be missed!

    BRILLIANT MONK
This is a great sounding version of this classic jazz album. Be warned...this is stereo only. No low/sub channel, just two channel only. You'll need full range left and right front speakers if you want low bass. It can also be played in a standard CD player and it sounds better than other versions because it was remixed from the studio masters. But the high resolution is very nice, you can hear every little nuance. Enjoy!

One of the Dead’s most accomplished works. Surround version is amazing. Get it while you can!
Great album in glorious 5.1 surround!
