Dash Cap Install 1986 Porsche 928S
Overall you can get a really good result using the product. It does require some skill to install. Its not just a quick snap it on a your done. For my model year 1986, I had to remove the instrument pod and steering wheel. No way around it. Wheel comes off easy, pod is a bit tougher, keep track of connections and order of removal so it goes back together correctly. My cap required a bit of trimming in the front edge where it meets the windshield. I did not use the adhesive that came with the cap....against recommendations I used 3M contact adhesive. The contact cement worked very well, but may have voided my warrantee, The fact of the matter is that the cap would not sit down level if I used the method described in the instructions. You can brace the cap as it is drying with bungee cords hooked through the defroster vents, over the top o the cap an hooked under the dash. Stuff newspapers under bungge cords to hold center of cap down, and cardboard wedged between cap and windshield to hold the front down. I painted my dashcap with vinyl and fabric dye...the plastic was black, I painted 2 coats black...Also got the coap for the instrument pod. Interestingly, the pod could easliy be covered with leather or real vinyl pretty easliy, then use the front cover over the leather or vinyl...I bought both the front cap and top cap for the pod. Front needed to be trimmed slightly for good fit. I will use the adheasive provided for the pod...hope this helps. The best advice I would give would be to remove the instrument pod and steering wheel to make things alot easier...
