Squashed coffee pods. What's wrong.

Having products putting in the coffee pods I've wrecked about 20 pods because they jam up somehow and when I close the handle it squashes the pods and makes them totally unusable. Have no idea what's wrong. Seems as though the machine has a fault. I am so careful when I put in a pod but only occasionally does one go in properly resulting in a perfect cup of coffee. I'm really disappointed with it. Had a different model previously and it was perfect every time.
