    Nemesis by Chalmers Johnson
This book should be required reading for ALL voting Americans. Nemesis, Johnson reminds us, is the goddess of divine justice and vengeance. In this very well-researched and documented volume Johnson examines the growth and implications of the US global power grab and subsequent garrisoning of the entire planet, as well as the unfortunate, parallel growth of American arrogance. Quoting Canadian journalist Naomi Klein - "There are only two ways to govern, with consent or with fear." - he analyzes the deterioration of US constitutional government as well as the consequent dominance of imperial executive authority. Comparing the imperial pathologies of Rome, Britain and America, he concludes, "After the attacks of September 11, 2001, cynical and shortsighted political leaders in the United States began to enlarge the powers of the president at the expense of the elected representatives of the people and the courts." He analyzes the process where-by this occurred, examining the growth of clandestine power controlled by the executive branch in the implementation of covert US policies across the globe. The picture he paints of the American empire, guarded by more than 700 bases armed and staffed around this poor planet, as well as the increasing stretch of US power out into space, is a devastating indictment of this country's destructive imperial reach. The book's very impressive strength is also it's rather minor weakness. Johnson is the consummate scholar, and every assertion in this book is well researched and carefully documented, but at times the digression into detail distracts the reader from the important main arguments of this VERY necessary book. I recommend it with GREAT enthusiasm, as well as the two which preceded it (Blowback and The Sorrows of Empire) in this excellent trilogy analyzing both recent US foreign policy and the actual, as well as the likely, consequences of our overweening arrogance and plundering exercise of imperial power.

    13 November 2017
    Great little machine!
I was looking for a small air popper for quick snacks and lunches. This works perfectly for my purpose. I've used it many times, and it is very simple to use. Well worth the price.
