The product is great! The game, not what I remembered…

But the game isn’t what I remembered. After being spoiled with the newer Pokémon games there were a lot of annoyances like no auto saving, using the tiny D-pad, and the need to hold down B to run. But those are minor annoyances. The game was shorter than I remember it being when I was a kid, but I imagine that was due to the little puzzles I needed to figure out as a kid being easier to figure out now. I finished the game in under 2.0 hours and the post-game incentives aren’t enough to keep me playing at the moment. I’ve just made it to groudon, and have jumped into Shining Pearl on Switch. I never played the original pearl, but this story is much longer and more intuitive than ruby.
If you’re looking for a nostalgic game to play this will scratch that itch. If you’re looking for a fulfilling game for hours of gameplay, then it might not be for you.
