Awesome Superzoom
What you need to understand about a superzoom is that it will never be as good as dedicated lenses covering parts of that range. There will be some distortion, some chromatic aberration, focus breathing, larger minimum f-stop.... something has to give to get the extreme range in a reasonable package, and this is the biggest zoom range of any walk around lens on the market.
That said, as long as you understand that and work with that, this is an INCREDIBLE lens! It minimizes the deficiencies of a superzoom lens and is better than every lense in that category that I've seen with a smaller range.
I have a few zooms/superzooms that I use on my Nikon bodies (a D7100 is my daily go-to). This one is replacing all of them. My walk around lens was an old Tamron 18-270mm, this one is better in every way. Sharper, faster, less chromatic aberration, better color and better contrast, way more range... Physically it's almost an inch longer and slightly heavier, but you don't notice it in use, it's better balanced, 1mm (I know it's nothing) less in diameter, but somehow the design doesn't feel bulky for a lens this big. The one place I do notice the size is trying to pack it.
The only lens that I have that has better IQ is a Sigma Art 24-105mm, which is a larger, MUCH heavier lens which I rarely carry because of the bulk and rather short usable zoom. For my walk around use the Tamron 18-400 is so good that I'm likely selling this lens and my old Tamron.
Since I received this lens the only other lens I own that I've used is my Nikkor 35mm f/1.8, when I need something faster in low light situations.
This lens is truly a single lens that will get you the shot no matter what the shot is unless you really need something specialized.
