NEW Samsung NX 50-200mm III f/4.0-5.6 OIS Zoom Camera Lens (Black) - NEW! US
14 August 2016
Lightweight Lens with harsh zoom and slow AF
I have the NX500 camera from Samsung. My intension was to add range to the standard 16-50 power zoom lens to get closer to some of my favourite objects. My earlier camera was the Canon SX40HS with 35x zoom. The NX500 is quite impressive with the 28 Mpix APS-C chip. The NX50-200 lens is disappointing in two major aspects. The most annoying thing is that the zoom ring is hard to turn, and at the range about 130mm the turning is suddenly much heavier. Zooming while shooting video is not possible without heavy tripod. The second drawback in this lens is the autofocus function. For some reason the lens is not able to find focus in some scenes where details are quite obvious to human eye. Focus is turning back an forth far out of focus. So I'm using it on manual focusing most of the time. My Canon was often faster and more accurate in good light conditions. The lens is quite light and image sharpness is ok, although the 16-50 is far better when talking of sharpness. The bajonet mount is easy handled, so is the shadow ring mount. This lens is a 4x zoom, which is ok, but I miss the continual zoom range from eq/24-800mm of the SX40HS. Slower action photography is the result.
