Lightweight and built to last
Bought this CamelBak Ambush in Black as it is the same design as the issued USMC Hydration Carrier Pack and uses the same Mil-Spec Antidote Reservoir 3L Short. Wanted something other than Coyote Brown and went with Black to match my CamelBak Stealth and CamelBak HAWG in Black that I also use.
Love the shorter torso profile that this pack has over the other packs that use the longer thinner reservoir, but still carry the same amount of fluid.
Other reviews I've read complain of a lack of waist strap/belt on this model. This is a shorter pack and if you put it on properly and cinch the shoulder straps correctly along with the sternum strap, it will stay put. If you need a hydration pack with a waist belt, get a longer profile pack that has it such as the MULE. Try before you buy.
This pack comes with two outer pockets that can hold similar stuff you'd normally carry in your pockets i.e wallet, phone, keys, chewing gum, chapstick, lighter, compact digital camera, 2-oz bottle hand sanitizer, etc. If you need to carry more stuff, get a MULE or HAWG. In the back of the pack, there is a large pocket designed to stow away the shoulder straps if attaching to another pack or vest. You can easily put a poncho or light rain jacket for inclement weather.
Previous versions of the Ambush had padded shoulder straps while this one they went with bare straps. I own both padded and non-padded and can't tell any difference as the load weight is so minimal. If you need padding, others have added aftermarket shoulder pads that simply attach via hook and loop fasteners or just slip on.
Speaking of previous models, I picked up a used excellent condition 2009 Omega Reservoir Model which is just perfect for those needing a longer torso pack. Doesn't come with a waist strap, but I was easily able to add one to the lower D-Rings with two tri glides, a dual adjust side release buckle and some spare 1 inch straps I had laying around and no sewing or paying someone to add them.
Overall, love CamelBak products and have been using both the Sports line and the Military line over the past 20 years.

Compact, reliable reservoir.
Source Products are well made and last a long time. This particular model is compact and fits in any of my packs to provide fluids on the go just about anywhere I can take it. Quick connect tube, and mouth piece makes it easy to route in my packs. Wide access top is easy to fill, clean and manage the reservoir.

Exact replacements for older CamelBak Hydration systems.
1 of 1 found this helpful CamelBak Hydrolink Conversion Kit great replacements for older hydration units that either wore out or didn't come with them. It's great to be able to find these older stock new for they don't make them anymore and are discontinued at most outdoor retailers.
Yes, you can find the newer stuff, but they don't fit the older reliable equipment still out and in use by many former military that continue to use their gear outside the military.
