Schecter Blackjack SLS C-1 FR S Sustainiac Trans Purple Burst TPB *NEW* + CASE!
    19 May 2016
Killer axe, though a bit on the bright side.
Excellent feel - the SLS neck is what changed my mind and made me buy this guitar. The satin finish on the back of the neck really speeds things up, too. Excellent access to the highest notes, too. The neck is a bit on the wide side, though the thickness makes up for some of that. Definitely not the old "baseball bat" feel of other Schecter necks. Not so sure I like the fret markers/dots, though. Too small. Looks cool though. Probably just need to grow more accustomed to the uncentered position. Vibrato - Works fantastic. Was a bit leery, at first, since it isn't a Floyd Rose but not anymore. Sustainiac pickup. Awesome cool! You do have to make very sure to unplug your cable from the guitar between sets and after practice since it will run down the 9V battery in a hurry if you don't. Tone - Sizzling leads and a full, brown overdriven rhythm through my Mesa Mark III. The Apocalypse pickup rocks. A serious metallic crunch does require some solid state rising edges from a stompbox, but that may be due to the analog Mesa/Boogie amp. Clean Tone - It's a bit bright/treble-y for my tastes but manageable. I've read about this and about folks thinking they will fix it by swapping out the bridge pickup but the REAL cause is the way the pickup has to be adjusted to accommodate the Sustainiac. The magnets on the higher strings are adjusted up much closer to the strings than on the lower frequency strings (read the manual) which is what causes the somewhat overly bright tone. I'm going to screw them back down a bit. I've even had the high E string get caught on the magnet while playing (aggressive picker) which really is a problem. Setup - Overall pretty good. Well tuned, intonation dead nutz. There was, however some buzz on the low E due to the action being a tad low - easily fixed.

    Pretty good stomper.
The effects are pretty good, though I don't go for raspy solid state distortion. Great for metal/thrash in the band-limited CD age, though. Not too good for live play, though. Too many button stomps required to change patches to allow for instant change on the beat. I'm looking into a way to, at least, assign a patch to each of the 4 switches but I'm not sure it will do that. I will probably have to design circuitry to fix this problem. Don't like the wah. Not enough resolution and so it changes too quickly. Really hard to do anything subtle with it. Might be able to adjust it it some but I'm not sure it will help.

    The Holy Grail of Amps!
IMO - This is as good as it gets. Had dreamed of getting a rig like this for years and years.
