Examine your ideas about the WW2 aftermath

With the benefit of a clear understanding of this horrific war and it's tragic aftermath, especially for Eastern Europeans, Norman has produced a superbly written and clearly considered account of the actions and motivations of the main players. The allies are not quite the heroes which lesser historians are content to regard them as and Norman Davies brilliantly corrects the balance with this knowledgeable and thoroughly researched volume. His prose throughout is a classic example of how to use the English language both correctly and well, an object lessen for not only would-be historians but any author. A superb read, highly recommended.

Dorati scores well

Antal Dorati has got a handle on The Sleeping Beauty and fits well with the superb Concertgebouw Orchestra for a luscious reading, especially on CD 2 which allows the orchestra to really stretch out. The music in the first part needs the ballet to be seen simultaneously for a more enjoyable experience but none such problem once we are well into it. A fine pairing for a classic ballet score.
