Excellent read!
1 of 1 found this helpful This is an excellent history of USMC armor activity during the Pacific campaigns of WWII. The text is lively and engaging, supported by "I was there" interviews of surviving participants. One thing that surprised me was the inaccurate current body of knowledge of this important theatre of battle; the author sets the records straight via many interviews and supporting research. He provides vivid descriptions of the equipment used and actions taken by both sides and is balanced in praising the US forces while tempering their successes with the terrible losses of life and limb.
It should be noted this reprint edition (Da Capo) is not up to the quality of the original Combined Publishing edition. While the text is sharp and clear, the 70-or-so pictures are muddy, dark and indistict for the most part; as a military modeler, the images are fairly important to me. Reading a caption that describes a picture, one should be able to make out the details described. Most photos are poorly rendered and unless you can find an original edition copy, be prepared for this disappointment.
In summation, Mr. Gilbert is to be commended for bringing this little-mentioned but important subject to light. There is a treasure of information within the covers. However, the supporting photos are sorely lacking.

Solid, reliable putty for most instances
This is the second time I've purchased this putty and I'm happy to see the packaging has changed. The first version used a poly-plastic tube and my putty dried in the tube; not that it was unusable, but thicker. The new, metal "toothpaste tube" style package promises fresher putty. The putty itself is great, having the consistency of drywall joint compound. Easy to apply and spread, cleans up with water. It builds up well, adheres well and can be smoothed with a cotton swab, cotton ball, or a small rag dampened with a little water. It sands very quickly, so you have to be judicious when sanding with sandpaper or sanding stick.
There are some places where a glazing putty could be better and others where Perfect Plastic Putty performs beyond the call, but I see them all as different tools for different jobs. For quick set up, quick shaping/contouring, and quick cleanup are paramount, this is a go-to product.
