Ambitious biography that works most of the time
Interesting book, well researched and written, but veers off at points into a weird netherworld and then the writing gets in the way of itself. Columbo was, it turns out, a multi-talented musician and spoiled narcissist of questionable sexual orientation as revealed here and he died in such a bizarre "shooting accident" in his 20s that I wished for more detail or explanation or hypothesis, but felt a lack of all three. Overall this will fill my need for a Columbo reference, although I don't feel as if it's the last word on the subject.

An invaluable historical record
This volume was compiled in the Netherlands after the war and is a comprehensive record of the Dutch Jew experience under Nazi rule. It is a riveting read but also horrifying. It will serve as a vital reference for any historian seeking documentation of this dark time in human history. Impeccable scholarship.
