The Seiko story
The foundation for the Seiko brand was set in 1881. That was when a 22-year-old entrepreneur named Kintaro Hattori opened up a watch sales and repair shop in Tokyo. Within 11 years he had opened the Seikosha factory to build wall clocks.
Hattori then made history in 1895 by building the first pocket watch, called the Timekeeper. He pioneered another Japanese innovation in 1913 with the production of the Laurel. This was the first Japanese wristwatch. The Seiko brand name was born in 1924, and the company has not looked back.
