Heres a tip to those of you out there having trouble using the new baitcasting type reels.
When preparing to cast, following the steps below and it will also reduce any "backlashing" and associated headaches.
- a. Be sure the line on spool is wet prior to casting. a spray bottle is a handy tool for this.
- b. Put the reel in free spool mode and "thumb" spool to prevent line from releasing.
- c. At the time of cast (this is critical) release thumb from spool and turn reel 90 degrees to put spool in vertical position as opposed to leaving it in horizontal position. This allows the line to flow freely.
- d. The moment the lure or bait touches water lightly "thumb" spool allowing bait or lure to fall under a controlled free spool.
Baitcasting equipment takes a little effort but the rewards are worth it.
Happy Fishing !!!
