I am an older mid-handicapper who has bought and used many different sets of irons over the years, the latest few being more or less "game improvement design" clubs. Much of my frustration with the various sets of irons I have played with in recent years is that instead of improving my game, they have in some cases made my game worse, mainly because I am uncomfortable with the way the irons look at address. So I decided to buy the Adams CB1s, even though they are supposed to be for better, more advanced players than I am, simply because when I address the ball with these irons, they are in my opinion the best looking clubs I have ever laid eyes on and they inspire confidence in me to hit them. And indeed, in the practice tee time and two 18 hole rounds I have played with the CB1s, I have hit them better than any set of irons I have used in a good number of years. The clubs are not going to transform me into a single digit handicapper, but I know my handicap will go down and my game is going to become more consistent and much less frustrating. I love these irons. For what it's worth I will describe how I find these clubs to play: 1. Despite being shafted with moderately weighted (115+ gm) Project X shafts, these irons do not feel or swing heavy (D3 swing weight), and distance-wise, I hit them as far as any graphite shafted irons I have hit in the last 7 or 8 years. I do not know if I would hit graphite shafted CB1s farther, but I am surprised and very satisfied with the distance I am getting with all of the irons from 4 through gap wedge. 2. Part of the reason may be that I find the overall weight distribution of the CB1s to be very balanced and to promote a "smooth(er)" swing. 3. The irons have a very nice, comparatively "soft" feel. I guess this is what forged irons are supposed to feel like compared to cast irons, but I tried several different forged irons before buying the CB1s (Mizunos, Wilsons, Taylormades) and none of them felt quite as dramatically different, unless they were graphite shafted. Even mishits do not feel excessively harsh with the CB1s, although you can definitely tell you did not get it flush. 4. Ball flight is very good, actually a little higher than I expected, but the ball does not "balloon" like it often did when I played sole weighted, deep cavity backed "game improvement" irons. 5. (and finally) The CB1 irons are surprisingly forgiving. They are somewhat cavity backed clubs but nowhere near to the extent that regular game improvement irons are (you can't see any sign of a cavity back even with the 4 iron). However, I think the real reason I find the clubs quite "forgiving" is that I don't mishit the ball as badly with the CB1s. I don't "flush" the ball consistently, but I don't seem to miss the sweet spot by as much as I used to, and as a result I get pretty good accuracy and do not lose much distance on mishits. I can curve the ball left or right pretty easily with these clubs (which is one of the reasons why Adams designates these clubs as being for "better players"), but I can't control the hook or fade very well, so I think I will stick to the goal of trying to hit the ball straight. Also, I can punch the ball pretty easily with these irons, and my punch shots go straight, unlike the punch hooks I generally hit with other irons. That's about it. Hope this helps the average guy who is looking for a nice looking set of clubs that work. I like the CB1s even better than I thought I would.Read full review
As a lifelong Cleveland user I was in the market for something different. After visiting a local retailer and hitting the latest player's clubs from an assortment of manufacturer's I was down to Cleveland CG16 Tour and Adams Idea Pro Black CB1. Ultimately I chose the Adams because they are forged and came with the Project X 6.0's I wanted to try as well(formerly used DG S300 for years). I made the right choice! The Adams are pleasing to the eye, set up well, about a half club longer and the forged heads with PX 6.0 shafts feel smooth and effortless on impact. As a 2 handicap I look forward to shaving that extra few strokes off of my scoring with the confidence I've gained with this new set of irons and the added distance I've gained with my Adams Speedline Driver.
Relatively new to the game and a mid to high handicapper I purchased these clubs against conventional wisdom. Surprisingly they were much much easier to hit then my game improvement irons and just as accurate (and long) as the CB2s. The feel is just great off the club face and the feedback lets you know when you hit it off center. The PX shafts are a great fit and suit my steep swing plane. Excellent club. Adams makes some good stuff.
Great looking set of irons thin top line, very solid feel. I am 6 handicap player and have been player Adams irons for the past ten years. I have been very satisfied with Adams clubs. Love the new CB! irons have played 3 rounds and really have liked the feel they. Some of the best feeling irons I have ever hit and I have tried them all. You can't go wrong with Adams in my opinion.
They play well and feel great
