Arko is regarded as one of the best budget shaving soaps out there. It's very inexpensive and is a great performer, easy to get a consistent lather with and a pleasure to use. Scent-wise, I would say Arko has a "zesty" or "detergent-like" scent. Some describe it as lemon-scented, like industrial cleaner, or even unaffectionally as a urinal puck, but I find it a pleasant, fresh and clean scent. The soap is somewhat drying to my face so I have to follow it up with a moisturizing aftershave or balm, but most soaps dry out my face so I wouldn't solely blame Arko soap for that. Sure, I wouldn't say Arko is the top of the line for shaving soaps but for the fraction of the price of some other big-name soaps and creams you get a great performer that I believe everyone should consider trying.

First of all, keep in mind that I'm a beginner with very little experience creating lather with shaving soaps. I tried Williams before and (even though I like the smell) found that it's a lot easier to create good lather with Arko instead. Really, a lot easier with Arko. As for scent, it reminds me of a fake industrial/cleaning-product lemon smell. With that in mind, I actually love the smell. The lather is quite decent and lasts enough time in the face without drying up. Although I do like to re-apply it throughout the shave for best results. Considering the price and how long the soap seems to last, I don't have any problems overusing it. I will most likely keep one in my collection at all times, as it's a fun soap to use and looks retro and cool.

It makes a great lather without a lot of time or effort. Provides a good smooth foamy lather to shave with any razor. Leaves my face clean and fresh. The scent reminds me of a lemony flowery slight chemical scent not too far from surface cleaner or disinfectant. Not off putting at all, just not fragrant like the other stuff available out there. I like it! I use this about as often as my Proraso stuff. The cost value can’t be beat! The puck is now in one of my mugs and its own Omega brush.

A classic shaving soap made in Turkey. Lathers well even in hard water. Pleasant but controversial citrus scent. The small puck seems like it will last a long time. A genuine bargain, before you go down the yellow brick road of costly artisanal soaps.

Arko soap in a bowl is one of those soaps that makes wet shaving affordable and easy. Being a hard puck it won't wear down like soft soaps tend to do. So it'll last you longer. Arko lathers up very quickly and is very efficient. You can actually face lather with arko very easily. Arko glides really well and just does what it's supposed to do. The scent is basically a generic fragrance, it smells nice to me and isn't overpowering. Another soap I recommend is Derby shaving soap. I get basically the same experience but the puck and bowl are almost twice the size. I've included photos of Arko and Derby next to each other for reference. Derby is a large puck so it makes Arko look small. But Arko is an average sized puck.
