I did some research on this as the range of prices is huge. To keep it simple, nowadays make sure you buy auto ranging so you don't have to select the range of say voltage you think you might be measuring. The next thing is that there are roughly two categories, cheaper ones that have loads of features such as true rms and 6000 or 10000 count and less than £30. And then much more expensive ones that have seemingly a lower spec and are bulkier. The difference is usually safety features, if you are working on mains and higher voltages and possibly high currents, go for the more expensive one with fewer features but with big fuses and four connectors. If you are on low voltage electronics stuff mostly, then the cheaper ones may well be OK for non professional use. Just be careful when you are using them. This meter comes in the safer bulkier and less features category (you could pay a lot more) which is what I wanted. However I did manage for a few years with one that cost a fiver and it still works. I am pleased with the Amprobe, clear easy to use and decent quality build and I understand they are owned by a big name in quality meters. Quite bulky compared to the cheap ones. It isn't pocket sized.Read full review

Fantastic entry level meter. It has most functions required by an electrician or diyer. However I’m not sure if the battery function was necessary or of any value. The torch function is useful. Build quality is good, screen easy to read and brilliant safety features. Continuity testing could be improved upon as it’s slow to react. Also min/max function is not available, however at this price point that’s being overly optimistic.
