Liner Note Author: Ian McFarlane. Michael Bloomfield's elegantly fluid (and equally as intense) solo guitar lines made him one of the best electric guitar players of his generation (which included none other than Jimi Hendrix), but his complete contentment at being a sideman on-stage and in the studio means he is often under-recognized in the pantheon of great rock and blues guitarists. This set brings together live sets Bloomfield played with former Electric Flag mate Nick Gravenites at Bill Graham's Fillmore West in 1969 (Columbia Records released parts of these on Live at Bill Graham's Fillmore West: 1969 and as one side of Gravenites' My Labors LP) with tracks from a pair of concerts Bloomfield played with Al Kooper at the Fillmore East in December of 1968 (these were subsequently released years later as Fillmore East: The Lost Concert Tapes 12/13/68). Extended live jams were Bloomfield's specialty and his obvious and timeless talent on his patented 1959 Gibson Les Paul sunburst model guitar is on full display here. ~ Steve Leggett
