Additional information
Personnel includes: John Patton (organ); Harold Alexander (saxophone, flute); Vincent McEwan (trumpet); George Edward Brown (drums); Richie "Pablo" Landrum (conga). Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, Ne Jersey on August 9, 1968. Recorded in 1968 but left unissued until over 25 years later, this is a pretty solid straight-ahead session of organ soul-jazz. Considerably better than the more commercial Understanding, the recording Blue Note chose to issue at the time; that album was full of contemporary soul covers, but five of the six tunes here are Patton originals. Excellent support, particularly from Harold Alexander on tenor sax and George Edward Brown on drums. ~ Richie Unterberger
