I was watching foreign music videos on LinkTV on satellite tv when the video to Lhasa's song "El Desierto" came on. She looked uncannily similar to an ex-girlfriend so,of course, I had to watch the whole video. The song was actually quite good so I searched for the cd to find out how good the other songs were. It takes a few listenings to it but it is actually quite good. The songs have depth to them and are not all sugar-coated like most of the boring pop songs that radio stations here in the U.S.A. try to pass off as music. There is a mix of Spanish and a sort of Middle Eastern sound [at least on some songs]that is interesting to listen to. Her voice can only be described as "different"--- kind of harsh, yet relaxing and almost playful. She really puts her heart and soul into these songs. I listen to all types of foreign music from all over the globe and although this isn't exactly my favorite cd it is still interesting enough to play every 2 weeks or so---just so my other music doesn't become jaded from overplay. A few songs on this cd would make for a nice mix on a home-made cd of different music from the likes of Aterceliopados[rock],Celso Pina[cumbia],Control Machete[rock/rap]El Chicano[jazz/blues/rock],etc. Listen to it and decide for yourself. Everyone has different tastes so buy what you like but don't ever be afraid to explore the wonders of world music.Read full review
