Firstly the best. Brazilian Byrd was a big seller when it came out in the mid 1960's, highlighting the music of Jobim. The guitar work and orchestrations lend new interpretations to the traditional bossa nova beats. It is my favourite Byrd album and in my view represents his best work, the artist at his peak. Corcovado, The Girl from Ipanema, As Praias Desertas, Dindi, and That Look You Wear are exquisite. Second, the worst. Unfortunately Hollywood Byrd shows the folly of deviating from your roots and strengths. Charlie is capitalising on the popularity of various movie themes and songs of the 1960s, but to me it doesn't work. The female voices overlying the guitar work does nothing to enhance it, almost cringeworthy at times. The best of the tracks are Alfie and Born Free but I suspect Charlie himself would have been embarrassed by this albumRead full review
