Not really a compact-Which suits me as I hate trying to delicately miss pushing, touching tiny control buttons all at same time on small bodies.Optical viewfinder option a huge advantage outdoors, especially in bright aussie light. Can we have 95-100% of the screens vision in the viewer though; not 80% or less. The longer zoom- out to 200mm (35mm terms) is so usefull when you cannot walk up close to a subject.Camera's extra weight and size is usefull if handshake or wind is an issue. One hand shooting while holding a brolly or other goods is achievable. There's something to grip. Will not suit ladies handbags or all day shoulder bag shoppers with todays larger mobile phone competing for space.Use the phone camera and stay a "snapper".The canon big screen is difficult to protect against sun glasses/ Car key/coin etc damage in multi stuff pockets.Carry case is usefull here and for chuck on the car seat and go grab shooting.Modest wide angle on the zoom is ok but limits it s value. So carry a wider angle G11,g12 etc as well and the menues are similer so you don't get too muddled up how to alter its operatiom in a hurry.G9- not perfect, but plenty useful when an SLR is too much gear;and it looks serious artillery, even at the camera club.Read full review
