BIO: senior golfer w/8 hdcp., had been playing Nike Combo irons with regular, rifle shafts FIRST IMPRESSIONS: extremely light w/graphite shafts and composite heads; traditional club heads mid-sized, w/modern look; very solid feeling even on off-centered hits; consistency and distance about the same but with less effort (emphasis is on timing) PROS: price - reasonable for quality set of irons; looks - traditional yet stlyishly modern w/mid-sized club; feel - solid and easy to hit with slightly higher ball trajectory CONS: short shots/chips around the green - given the larger club head and light weight, I still have not gotten comfortable with "touch" shots around the green (no consistency)...I am hoping time will cure this issue RECOMMENDATION: I would definitely recommend this club to all seniors, serious mid-handicappers and younger players. As stated, it is a quality product and very reasonably priced. This said, I do not believe better players will like the light weight or larger heads.Read full review
The Cobra S3 is the best Iron I have ever used in 45 years of Golf. I have used all the Best Clubs in the business but AT LAST somebody has got it RIGHT!!. The S3 E9 Face Technology actually works! I was never a great long iron player - mainly because my ball striking would wander a little from the "Dime Spot" that the Pro's refer to. The S3 has an expanded 'Sweet Spot' on the long irons and is very forgiving for off centre strikes. This feature has really helped my iron play and give me more confidence in my game.
I was looking for a set of irons I could get my game into the 70's with. I was using Callaway X-22 Tours and my striking was not great with them. Sold the Callaway's and bought these. Confidence is way up after 2 rounds. My shots are going higher and distance control is outstanding. I use stiff shafts but they don't feel nearly as stiff as the 6.0 flighted Rifles on the Callaway's. Much better feel on these for me. I'd like a 3 iron, but the gap wedge is really nice for me inside 130 yards. Not in the 70's quite yet, but once dialed in to all of the distances on these great irons, there will be no excuses not to be.
Playing golf for 2 years now. Handicap is down to 22 (when my evil twin half dosn't show up). I felt ready to change form Cobra UFI. Was talked into g15's by my local golf pro-- but was not hapy with this clubs. They decreased my distance and the feel was not ideal. Then I tried the Mizuni JPX800, Ping i15, and Cobra S3 in the shop. The distances and launch angles were much better with S3's then others. More importantly, the S3 irons felt much better to hit. Have now played 2 rounds with them. All I can say is WOW. My 7 iron went form 135-140 with other clubs to 145-160!!! with S3's. All other irons in the set had same benefits. I also was able to draw and fade the ball with more consistency. I was also able to hit the 4 and 5 iron-- may have ot give up hybrids!! Can't wait for weather conditions to get better so I can realy put these clubs to good use.Read full review
Great balance and good feel at impact. The lighter graphite shafts combined with the attractive look at address make these clubs easy to swing with confidence at lower clubhead speeds. I picked up about 5-7 yard on good strikes. The clubs are consistant even on off center hits. I nice change from my forged irons. Handicap: 11
