About this product

Product Information

This bittersweet teen comedy from director Jordan Brady (WAKING UP IN RENO) follows the travails of Rena (Jena Malone), a teenager who dreams of an impossibly utopian existence. Sat sadly slumped in an interminable trailer park world, her calamitous circumstances take a further downturn when her boyfriend hotfoots it out of her life after learning that Rena is pregnant. With a world-weary sigh she instead focuses her attentions on her errant father, who is spending time behind bars due to a barbarous murder. The yearly prison picnic provides an opportunity for Rena to bring the family along, and after some cajoling, they attend. The resulting venture provides some comedic spills among the festivities, and a chance for Rena to consolidate her past, present, and possible futures.

  • when great acting meets a subpar story

"Confessions of an American Girl" is not about confessions, nor about anything resembling a normal, mainstream American Girl-- if such a thing exists. The protagonist is not just flawed, but flawed to the point that she cannot be recognized as a functioning person, although incredible acting manages to carry you over points that would normally have had you reach for the remote to change channels. None, let's make that all caps-- NONE of the main roles make sense, none of them hold up to being even lightly considered. Good technical work, great acting, a flawed story with a title designed to increase overseas sales, where, I am afraid, this will be touted as "the real America." It's a shame to waste a good crew and some great actors on a story like this one. .

  • A real life movie... touching.

I thought the movie was excellent. It was like you were watching real life instead of a movie. Brad Renfro was an excellent actor in this movie. Movies that are realistic are moving to the soul!

  • Confessions of An American Girl

While I thought that the plot sounded interesting, this was truly a very boring movie. The acting was poor, it was hard to follow, and the movie failed to make me "feel" for the characters. I wouldn't recommend it.
