Additional information
Dream Syndicate includes: Steve Wynn (vocals); Karl Precoda (guitar); Kendra Smith (bass); Dennis Duck (drums). Recorded live in September 1982. THE DAY BEFORE WINE AND ROSES is a September 1982 radio session recorded in L.A. by Dream Syndicate's first and best lineup: Singer Steve Wynn, lead guitarist Karl Precoda, bassist Kendra Smith (later of Opal), and drummer Dennis Duck. Though there's a rare 1981 self-titled EP mostly featuring demos for this classic band's memorable full-length debut, THE DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES, THE DAY BEFORE WINE AND ROSES is its earliest readily-available recording. The set leads off with "Some Kinda Itch" and a raucous but cool cover of Neil Young's "Mr. Soul," but soon turns to wild rave-ups like the storming "That's What You Always Say," a menacingly atmospheric "When You Smile," and a lengthy version of "The Days of Wine and Roses" that's even more feedback-laden than the studio take. The band is even capable of rocking a cover of Donovan's "Season of the Witch."
