Additional information
As the son of the late Nigerian legend Fela Kuti, Femi Kuti emerged in the 1990s as the crown prince of Afrobeat, keeping the spirit of his father's funky sound and political message alive while adding a contemporary touch. The two-disc DEFINITIVE COLLECTION expands on the previous Femi anthology, BEST OF, including pretty much everything offered on the latter plus a second disc of remixes and dub versions. While the pulsing grooves and punchy horns of the classic Afrobeat style are the dominant element throughout, the addition of hip-hop (Common guests on "Missing Link") and soul (see Jaguar Wright's contribution on "Fight To Win") moves things from homage to vital musical/social message, which is exactly what Fela would have wanted anyhow.
