If there's anything Delerium fans are, it's devoted. Arguably, I've been among their best assets in terms of "passing the word," and just about everyone I've introduced to Delerium has become another fan. HOWEVER... ...It seems to me that, with the last few albums, the band was searching for something a little more along the lines of synthpop, and I admit I was a little disappointed. Rhys Fulber's solo project, Conjure One, seemed to have maintained a lot of Delerium's style during these years, but Delerium had seemed to have been experimenting in other areas for a while. Music Box Opera, on the other hand, is arguably their best work ever. The album revisits a lot of their old style going back as far as Semantic Spaces, but with a very different approach with some amazing production that modern technology allows, and (as always) some amazing female (mostly) vocalists. Unlike even their best albums of the past, where perhaps three to five of their songs would find their way to my MP3 player, I had to buy the full album in this case because EVERY song is awesome. I don't know if this will bring a lot of new fans into the Delerium spectrum, but I'm grateful to the band for paying tribute to it's long-standing fanbase with this beautiful piece of work.Read full review
