Great Book for Starting Artist!
I purchased this book years ago, then when my granddaughter came to visit she told me she was into art, and drawing. I showed her the book, and she loved it, so I purchased one for her and had it shipped to her! She was thrilled, and informed me that it had lots of great information in it that she doesn't get from her art school. Totally Awesome! Great Product, Great Value at a Great Price! My Granddaughter and I recommend this book to everyone starting to learn artistic drawing, and even the seasoned veteran Artist can surely Appreciate this and find much value within the pages of this book. Very Happy and Very Pleased by both of us!

Comic book, manga, and fine artists - LISTEN UP!
I had initially dismissed Mr. Hamm's book on drawing the human figure because of its small size. I had assumed a book with about 100 pages would only cover the basics and ignore the finer aspects of figure drawing. Imagine my shock (not to mention shame) when I finally sat down and went through it to discover how much the book really covers. No space is wasted in the layout, as every available inch is filled with information. The illustrations are very clear(unlike Bridgman)and the text supplements them perfectly (unlike Hogarth). Bones, tendons, and ligaments are not overshadowed in importance by muscles - something I see in a lot of other books. Surface anatomy is stressed in this book. Knowing how every muscle looks by itself is useless unless you can also render the bones and other anatomical aspects that are present on the body surface(i.e. kneecaps, ribs, collarbones, elbows, etc. Many anatomy books just give you generic heads as examples. Mr. Hamm's book has TONS of variations of both male and female heads. Those of you who want a little variety in your people, this is for you! This book will become a permanent desktop fixture(as is mine) for the fine artist or comic book artist. Even you, manga fans! I've flipped through much of the horrendously overpriced "How to draw manga" books pertaining to anatomy and let me tell you, they don't even compare. Any artist can use the raw information in this book and twist it to meet his or her own style. If you want to really know the body's features this book will help you learn it from the inside out. I've got a challenge for you - sit down with this book and count how many times you hear yourself say "Oh, so THAT'S how it works!" You'll be surprised (not to mention humbled) at just how much you don't know. Because honestly, who DOESN'T want to know just how many bone projections there are on the human elbow? In short? Buy this book. If you don't have enough money, then sell a kidney. Pick bottles. DO SOMETHING!Read full review

serious book about drawing people correctly and convincingly
This book is a great reference for drawing the human figure along with anatomy close-ups and details. It is a must-have for anyone who wants to understand the complexity of drawing people and translate that into believable or stylistic work. Lots of practice drawing from this book will help log this info into memory which is critical for any serious artist. Hair and clothing styles change and some past styles are in the book (which often come back into fashion) but the overall face, hands, body etc will always be the same and represented perfectly throughout the book.

So much is covered in this small volume. The book is filled with so many drawings for visual references. The style of the drawings is simple for a comprehensive look at the figure, but the drawings have this cool dated look to them. I have been drawing all my life and know this will be a valuable reference for when I'm stuck while drawing the human form

Sketching the Human Body
I was in a Sketching class and my instructor said this is the best book she has ever seen for drawing the human body. It has many many examples of eyes, noses, mouths, ears, and features like muscles and age lines. It also shows examples of how to draw nudes from the basic outline all the way to one with complete details. My sketching teacher has been drawing over 40 years and if this is the best book she has ever seen for drawing the human body, I see no reason to buy any other. Personally I have practiced several hours from lessons in the book. I'm getting there, but still have quite a ways to go. Glad I have a good eraser. :)
