The Electro-Harmonix HOG Octave Guitar Effect Pedal is a must have. Whether your using it to just get an octave up or octave down, or mixing all 10 harmonizing sliders to make the much strived for organ sound, adding this pedal to your collection will add a whole new element. As you get familiar with it, you will be able to make your guitar sound like an organ, a violin, a cello, a bass, a harmonica, or even a harp. Not to mention the expression pedal which you can use for the wah or filter effect. You can also use it to sustain your organ sound and play guitar over it, or use it like a whammy and slide right up to the next octave. This pedal is what us pedal junkies have been yearning for. Go buy one!
The HOG2 is a wonderful pedal that utilises the octave generator concept of the POG pedals, an integrates other features to make it a pedal in a league of it's own. The tracking is the best for any polyphonic octave generator I've ever owned or even seen - even when it has the pitch options running simultaneously with the dry signal! This feature alone would likely sway me to buy this pedal. The spectral gate button can even tidy the notes up further, if dampening the generated notes. The filter options provide different feels to the sound, from very convincing organ sounds, to very convincing 12, 24... etc. string guitars. The envelope filter is great for the fading in of the generated notes, especially for the organ sounds, but a small amount on more regular guitar sounds can take a bit of the harshness off too. The various expression effects can be fun, but are somewhat of an unecessary feature for me, although the central expression switch is handy. As for expression though, I found the included expression pedal confusing to use, and also unintuitive in it having no stable base - an odd design choice. I personally think it would be better if it came separately, like the other foot controller does, and take the price down a little. Overall though, a fantastic pedal, even if some of the functions exceed my needs. If you find one for even a slightly reasonable price, you should probably get it.Read full review

The Hog2 is great as is all electro- Harmonix equiptment, but I'm not sure what they were thinking when they developed the Expression Pedal. I can understand the no moving parts idea but if you try to use it scoots across the floor"not good" you don't need to chase pedals. And as I found out later there is a cradle available if you want to mount it on you pedal board,"should let the customer know this before they buy it". and it's large. I had to fabricate my own holder.

Fully capable Harmonic Octave Generator, now with full MIDI control. This thing tracks very well, and makes plenty of sounds. Really a one of a kind product with these capabilities.

This unit does crazy things to guitar sound, and after a week of using it, I think I have only scratched the surface. The most immediate use would be to emulate 60's and 70's "psychadelic" keyboard sounds... but that is selling this unit short by a LOT. I am using it in conjunction with an EHX 8 step pedal (a sequencer) in the expression slot... there will be mayhem when I get it all going :) I bought this unit used, with an expression pedal AND the memory bank pedal (which I highly recomend as an added bonus to this unit - it stores up to 99 presets and saves you fidling with it in live sets).
